Watch out for Wolves in Sheep's Clothing: We have to always look at a person's fruit. That is, what a person does, what a person produces shows if they belong to God or if they belong to the world.
Good Fruit looks like this: Galatians 5:22-24 "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with it passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit." Jesus talks about these in the Sermon on the Mount, which is in Matthew Chapters 5-7.
Bad Fruit looks like this: Galatians 5:19-21 "The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions, and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God." Look each one up and understand what it means so you do not enter into any of these behaviors and are able to distinguish them by how others are acting. Then you will easily know if they are true Christians or not. Be careful you do not judge but use this for your standard. Pray for them and God will use you to be a witness to others and make a way for them to see Jesus through you.
What if I know someone who exhibits bad fruits? If you know someone involved in or bearing bad fruit as described above, tell them about Jesus and how he looked to the Father for help and guidance. Tell them how he is the true answer but we have to open our heart's door to let him inside. Let them know there are better things to do with their time that would bless them. God cannot bless sin or any act of sin. There are always consequences to sin that will effect them and their loved ones. Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death." Pray for that person and place him or her under the blood of Jesus Christ.
Identifying sin: Another place in the Holy Bible that tells very clearly identifies sin is the book of Proverbs. This book was written by Solomon who was David's son. They call this book the book of wisdom. There are seven sins that are detestable to God. Proverbs 6:16-19 "There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers." Stand free from all these types of sin. Place God number one on a daily basis and you will not be affected by these types of sins. Make time with him each and every day because each day is a special gift from God Almighty to be able to live out the life he has planned for you!
Which path are you on?
1 John 2:5-6 "But if anyone obeys his word, God's love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did." 1 John 2:9-11 "Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates his brother is still in the darkness. Whoever loves his brother lives in the light, and there is nothing in him to make him stumble. But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness; he does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded him."
Galations 5 talks about being free in Christ Jesus and not falling under the slavery of sin again. Galatians was written by Paul who knew first hand about sinning because he persecuted many Christians himself and then God used him in a mighty way. Jesus literally had to strike him blind before he would believe. Once he became saved he was a mighty disciple who preached to the Gentiles and the Jews. He has written a good portion of the new testament in the Bible. We are directed not to sin as Christians. Remember God can never bless sin. Also there are always consequences to sin. These consequences can negatively effect you and others who love you. It is always better not to sin. This is something we learn about as we keep drawing closer in our walk with the Lord. The word for this explained in the Word is called sanctification. This is done by the Holy Spirit making us more like Jesus enabling us to show others what being a Christian is truly all about. 1 Corinthians 6:11 says,"And this is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God." We will never be perfect because he is the only perfect one. But we can keep growing in Him and learning all more about Him in the Word of God. Jesus, God and the Holy Spirit are living as you are alive today. When you draw closer to him, he will draw closer to you. Each day is a gift, let your light shine from Him out to others and tell them the good news of salvation. What follows are ways to see if someone is a Christian or not. He writes about this because there are many who say they are Christians but truly are of the world. This is sometimes called "a wolf in sheep's clothing."
