Repentance from Sin is an ongoing cleansing process.
It is a common misconception that the repentance and rejection of all sin for a new believer will be perfect. Repentance and the turning from sin is an evolving living process. Do not over scrutinize yourself; do not expect that you will live perfectly sin free (our shortcomings are more apparent early on in our walk with Christ) , or that you will appear as a Christian of 30 years does. Because if you do so, you will find your own scrutiny will cause damage to your belief that you can be changed into the likeness of Christ. This is not to say that it is ok to sin, but rather that you are now acutely aware of your sin. As the Spirit of God reveals sin in your life, simply ask Jesus in prayer for forgiveness, and speak with your mouth that you confess and repent of it. For many this is a daily process. A truly fruitful Christian life comes often after years of pruning, correction, forgiveness, and repentance.
Walking in the Spirit should be the goal of every Christian. It is only then that we are fully empowered and find freedom from sin and our flesh is put under the autority of the Spirit. There are two types of Christians. Those who are living and walking in a worldly way, and those who are living and walking in the Spirit. The latter is where we find true joy and freedom.
